Kayaks Australia is a retail paddling centre, owned and operated by Denise Williams, who is a University Qualified Exercise and Rehabilitation Consultant with over 30 years of on-the-water paddling experience.

Situated at Taren Point, in the Sutherland Shire (southern suburbs of Sydney), Kayaks Australia carries a wide range of canoes, kayaks, sea kayaks and sit-on kayaks from the leading designers and manufacturers in Australia and New Zealand.

We proudly support companies that are still making products in Australia and New Zealand (keeping jobs and money here), as we have found that these products are equal to (and in most cases better than) a lot of the imported brands with regard to quality and performance on the water.

The locally made brands that we stock include Australis, Finn, Mission, and Q-Kayaks.
We are also agents for BIC, Necky, Ocean Kayak and Old Town.

So, if you are looking for a massive canoe and kayak warehouse in Sydney where you can actually see and touch a wide range of watercraft (we have over 120 craft in our warehouse), then you should come down to Kayaks Australia.

Our address is Unit 1, 23 Bay Road, Taren Point and our showroom fronts directly onto Bay Road in Taren Point. We began serving the people of the Shire and surrounds in 2002, we have built a reputation for selling only the highest quality products and providing exceptional service and information.

If there is any information that you require and are not able to find it here just yet, please drop into the shop, send us an email or give us a call on 02 9531 7800.

Dare:Ops on location

Thank You for helping us stop bullying in our schools (Sponsorship 2008)

Kayaks Australia would like to thank everyone who purchased a new canoe, kayak, sea kayak or sit-on-top from us between July and December 2008, as it allowed us to sponsor the Dare:Ops Anti-Bullying Program.

In a world where things are generally "fixed" after the event, the guys at Dare:Ops are taking a positive and pro-active approach, to encourage our nation's youth to be the best that they can be.

Simpson Desert Bike Challenge on location

Sponsorship 2009 - $1,455 donated to RFDS

On September 29 2009, Shire local Mike Brennan set out on a 590km bike race across the Simpson Desert, raising money for the Royal Flying Doctors Service as he went.

The race is across 9 stages, with a minimum pace required to complete each stage within the alloted time. If Mike falls under the required speed, he will be picked up by his support vehicle and only have the number of kilometres completed recorded.

Mike's preference is for sponsorship, so that the money he raises is the result of the number of kilometres that he actually completes. Mike's goal is to raise $10,000 (roughly about $20 per km). Kayaks Australia will sponsor Mike $5 per kilometre completed, so he is 25% of the way there, and it will just come down to the number of kms he completes.

Mallacoota Lake System, Mallacoota Victoria

Mallacoota... A great place to go paddling!

We spent the Easter break in Mallacoota VIC, about an hour past Eden, just over the NSW/VIC border... What a great place for kayaking!.

There is an extensive lake system that you can explore, or if you prefer something with a bit more adventure, head out for an open water paddle or a bash in the surf.

Mallacoota Hotel Motel

In Mallacoota, we choose to stay at the Mallacoota Hotel Motel, as it is a one-stop-shop for accommodation, meals and drinks.

Kayaking Clubs - Are you looking for people to go paddling with?

Skills training at Sutherland Shire Canoe Club

Canoe and kayak clubs are a great place to start when looking for people to go paddling with.

The benefits that you receive as a member of a club (insurance coverage, advice and guidance from paddlers with more experience than you, as well as skill development days), far outweigh the costs of joining these clubs.

There are clubs all over Australia, and in the southern Sydney area, we are particularly lucky to have some specialist clubs (racing, white water, sea kayaking), as well as groups that are just interested in recreational paddling.

Find out more about our local Paddling Groups and Clubs.

WARNING

Be careful of purchasing a kayak during "run-out" sales

What looks like a bargain (especially if it is heavily discounted) can actually turn out to be a pain in the long run.

If a store is discontinuing a brand/product, it usually means that they will no longer have a relationship with the importer, and this can leave you with limited support in the event of a warranty issue or when requiring replacement parts.

There have been a number of changes in the paddling industry in recent years with brands moving between different importers.

Your problem could be...
Who is responsible if you have a warranty issue??

  • The previous importer has no incentive to fix any problems you have
  • The current importer will probably say that it is not their problem because the craft was not supplied by them, and
  • With the parent company overseas, this can leave you in no-mans land.

Because of a couple of experiences like this in the past where importers have changed, Kayaks Australia purchases most of our watercraft direct from local manufacturers or from the manufacturer's representative in Australia.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact us.
